Adventure #40 - Huddle01

web3 video meetings and decentralized infrastructure

GM 👋

Real quick - I’m speaking with a cool VC fund tomorrow.

If you’re building in DeFi or Infrastructure, reply to this email with your blurb & website.

^ I’ll do my best to bring you up in the conversation.

In other news, I’m working on something cool.
Will share more asap.

Anyhow, let’s move on to the newsletter
Today's plan is as usual 👇️

Use this framework to look into a business:

Disclaimer: None of this is sponsored, I choose what to write about. This is not financial advice either!

Today is dedicated to Huddle01

Heads up: Huddle01 is the most challenging product I’ve ever reviewed.
I see there’s something unique about it but I apologize if I can’t quite unveil that for you 🙃

The Product

(i) problem

  • risk of privacy leaks with web2 platforms (e.g. Zoom)

  • performance issues (because of routing)

  • storing recordings of calls is expensive

  • multistreaming is challenging

Once again, these are what I’ve pieced together after my research.
Maybe there’s more.

(ii) solution

Huddle01 is building a decentralized network to facilitate open, borderless and secure audio/video communication between users.

their copy

Huddle01 is kind of like a protocol because people can build on top of it.

But it also has a product - a video conferencing product (like Zoom but decentralized) with many cool features:

  • log in with just a wallet

  • storage of calls is on IPFS

  • meetings can be token-gated

  • you can stream to multiple platforms

But also, Huddle01 gives SDK (software development kit which I think means plug-n-play code) to others so they can fork (i.e. copy) the product.

And in fact some pretty big players like Messari and Lens are using Huddle01.

One thing that’s coming for Huddle01 is being able to run a node and secure the network (which leads to decentralization)

Why would you do that?
Because you’ll be incentivized (likely with tokens).

^ That’s how ETH validators work.

What may this tell you?? There will be a token haha.

(iii) demo

Here’s how the dashboard looks like

Aakash (from Doodhwala) and I had a meeting through Huddle and it worked really well.

The meetings window is lovely too! Unlike Google meets, here you have reactions (if you’re having a call with multiple people or a webinar thing).

Is cool, I like it! I see one friction point for why users would choose a web2 platform over Huddle01.

With Zoom/Google meets, one can integrate AI tools like Fireflies to transcribe the meeting and give highlights.

(iv) how you can benefit

  • use the video conferencing product

  • use Huddle01’s SDK and build on top of it

  • participate in their Hackatons (they got many)

The founding team
